Hurricane Awareness Week, May 15 - 21Families should review how to prepare for hurricanes or tropical storm disasters with their families. With Harvey winding down in force and Irma approaching the Florida coast, it is a good time to be sure your family knows what to do when such a catastrophic weather event approaches.

As in any severe weather, it is vitally important to watch and follow weather reports, especially those of the National Weather Service.

If the major impact of the storm is far away, our area may be affected with heavy rains.  It is important to understand what to do if flooding occurs.

In fact, the National Weather Service lays out a daily plan for the week on what to do to get ready.

Westchester County offers tips and links on what to do locally. Read more about hurricanes on Keeping Safe.
